WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The National Construction Code NCC/ Building Code of Australia BCA states the legal limit is 62 Ln'Tw or below HOWEVER please check your specific body corperate bi-laws as your level maybe lower generally 55 Ln'Tw or below. Some higher end apartments are below 50 Ln'Tw.
Access to the Downstairs Apartment : To conduct the test we need simultaneous access to the down stairs apartment/s and your apartment. As we place our tapping machine in your apartment and go downstairs to measure the noise level.
Beware! many flooring companies will claim a product will pass (to secure the sale). Please request a copy of the data sheet indicating the floors test results. Then speak to one of our Acoustic Consultants as results can be difficult to interperet
We recommend you conduct a test patch prior to laying your floor. This way there is no guesswork and you can be sure your floor complies if you ever receive complaints in the future.
Factors that affect test results: Many of the data sheets are also misleading as they include additional layers of plaster board/ false ceiling cavity and thicker concrete slabs
You can expect a copy of the Floor Impact Test Results within 1-2 business days from conducting the test. Or same day results for an additional fee.
How soon/ when are we available to book a test? Generally our acoustic consultants for hire are available on weekdays around 10-11am, please check our availabilities first, then approach you building manager to inform the downstairs tenants. Testing generally completed within 1 hour.
Finished Floors: Yes we can come and conduct a Floor Impact (Tapping Test) on your completed floor to see if you comply with your body corperate requirements. Generally the level required is found in your body corperate bi-laws under floor coverings and renovations.
Test Patches: We recommend you approach the flooring company about supplying some test patches and possibly some underlay. For best results in an ideal scenario the test patch should simulate the finished floor ie, levelling compound and glued to the underlay however due to workflow this is rarely possible.
